Megan Klenkle became chronically ill in 2011, and has been living with numerous illnesses ever since. During that time, reading has been a lifeline for her. It has allowed her a break from the fear that filled her reality. It’s been a comfort in dark times and gave her a way to continue living out her dreams. Megan’s goal was to try to share that comfort and freedom that she found in reading with others suffering from similar conditions.
In 2018, Megan Klenke created a program called Chronic Readers Club. The program sends out care packages to young people who are also chronically ill, with each package containing a book from the recipient’s wishlist! The purpose of Chronic Readers Club is to make chronic life a little easier by supporting and distracting participants from illness while creating a magical escape through reading. Megan has sent out 82 packages since she started the program.
The money raised from the Chronic Readers Club t-shirt fundraiser have gone directly back into the program to buy more books for packages and covering shipping costs.
