Cheyenne’s Journey to Help Expecting Parents Access Birth Support

I’m Cheyenne and I’m a birth and postpartum doula in Richmond, VA. The vast majority of my doula clients desire access to support before, during, and after childbirth, but can’t afford to pay $800+ at this time in their lives, so I’m always looking for creative and effective ways to provide families support and still sustain my own costs of living.

I found Bonfire at a time when I had a client who asked me if I could travel to attend to her birth and postpartum. While I don’t normally do this because of the added cost, I suggested we see if we could fundraise to make it happen.

That’s when I created a shirt with the tagline I Got This Shirt + Someone Else Got Birth Support, with information below about how continuous birth support is so effective!

In about a week, with over 70 funders, I raised enough money for travel, lodging, and food on this trip from Virginia to Georgia for nearly two weeks. I was able to attend this parent’s birth and offer four postpartum support sessions with her and her little one.

The underlying point of this campaign is that everyone who seeks birth support should be able to access it. It is a very real tool that all the strong, beautiful, wonderful birthing parents out there should have in reach. Through community, support, and fundraising campaigns like this, we can make it happen.
